Say What? Walking Dead showrunner (writer/director of the show’s pilot episode) Frank Darabont steps down, says Deadline? This will confuse many fans of the show who spotted the filmmaker at Comic-Con just this past weekend. It is more puzzling considering how hard Darabont worked to get the show made and put on the air.

Darabont made his directorial debut with “The Shawshank Redemption” which was a slow brewing hit as it became one of the most beloved films of the 1990s, after it left the big screens.  Then came “The Green Mile,” in 1999, a hit with the critics and the audience.

So far, no public statements have been made about this news, or if the writer/director may stay with the show at some capacity. However, it looks like the hit AMC show will go on without him.

Season 2 starts on October 16th.
