We caught up with the star and the director of “The Iran Job” (Fork Films) at the Los Angeles Film Festival. The new documentary follows professional American athlete Kevin Sheppard into the very Islamic, restricted Iran where he will honor a contract to join the A.S. Shiraz basketball team and help them up the league ladder one win at a time. Losing is not an option.

Directed by Till Schauder (produced by Sara Nodjoumi) the film paints a different image of the Iran we have seen on the western news programs. It explores cultural differences while showcasing common beliefs and more peaceful dialogue through direct human interactions. The friendship of the American ballplayer with three Iranian women is the heart-and-soul of this film. It displays them as free-thinking, independent individuals despite the imposed oppression on women. Unexpected to U.S. audiences are the real opinions of Iranians about America and Americans, and the good dose of humor present in this film.

“The Iran Job” is a great beacon of peace for resolving issues through ongoing, honest dialogue. Under the careful consideration of filmmakers Shauder and Noudjoumi, this film is a great balance of message and story and it immensely benefits from its charming, personable messenger, Kevin Sheppard.

“The Iran Job” will enlighten and entertain you beyond expectations.
