Some films announce themselves with a big star. Others get your attention because of the combination of talent they bring together. Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother, the new film from writer-director Bassam Tariq, belongs firmly in the latter category.
A Compelling Ensemble at the Center
Premiering at the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival, the Orion Pictures drama stars Oscar winner Mahershala Ali as Latif, a devoutly religious hitman whose carefully divided worlds of faith, fatherhood and violence begin to collide after the death of his wife.
From there, Tariq sends his protagonist on a desperate journey across Houston to protect his children, forcing Latif to confront not only the forces closing in around him, but also the beliefs that have shaped his life.
Yet one of the film’s biggest draws may be its unusually compelling ensemble. Ali is joined by John Cho, Abubakr Ali, Laith Nakli, Tramell Tillman, Tiffany Boone and Giancarlo Esposito, with Adia and Jahleel Kamara also starring.
It’s the kind of cast that immediately sparks curiosity—bringing together performers from dramatically different corners of film and television, with the potential for a rich range of perspectives and performances. And with Tariq, whose work has consistently explored questions of identity, community and belonging, behind the camera, Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother arrives at TIFF with more than just star power.

The film opens in select theaters September 25, before expanding nationwide in October.
