Meet Josh Pence: You Know His Body, Not His Face (Yet)

By: Benjamin Scuglia —

Josh Pence has a unique problem for an up-and-coming actor. He has a prominent supporting role in a hit film with tons of Oscar buzz—and yet nobody knows his face (yet). If you caught The Social Network then you certainly know Josh’s body—and quite a physique it is—because he was cast as a body double opposite strapping hunk Armie Hammer, who played identical twins Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss in the film. Josh played one of the twins with Hammer’s face later superimposed via special effects.

Pence, 28, is a fashion model and Dartmouth grad (beauty and brains…) He landed the role and was informed after the fact that producers wanted him only for his body. “It was shocking at first,” Pence told the “Washington Post” back in October. “Once I got over my ego… it was a no-brainer.”

He and Hammer worked together for 10 months under the tutelage of acting instructor Cameron Thor to portray the kind of “subtle movements and speech patterns that the Winklevosses would have developed over two decades of genetic equality,” notes the “Post.”

The real Tyler Winklevoss declared their impersonation “superb.” In the meantime, Pence has already wrapped “The Algerian” and says he is fully visible. And in “Social Network,” he also worked in “a tiny Easter-egg cameo about a third of the way through. Keep an eye out for a bathroom scene. Don’t blink.”
