Resident Evil Retribution tops U.S. Box Office with $21 million

“Resident Evil: Retribution” found serious success; chewing up “Finding Nemo,” as it racked up $21 million at the weekend domestic box office.

Overseas, it grossed an estimated $50 million from 50 markets, led by a $10.3 million opening in Japan. That’s the biggest of the year for a Hollywood movie, topping “Dark Knight Rises” and “The Avengers.”

Not bad for a movie based on a video game.  What’s next?  Lindsay Lohan in “Grand Theft Auto—The Film;” no doubt she gets caught for drunken driving.

Is Mila Jovovich that good of an actress?  Does this vast audience pay to see her pour out her soul, or to see how much blood she can spill?

Or…

Can any physically fit model slash “actress” step into this role; as long as she (and the computer graphics) are believable when she is stepping on bad guys’ faces?

But if the casting is not broke, and it’s not exactly making the film’s producers broke, it looks like Ms. Jovovich has a role that will go on for years.

But—for how many years?

Will she be like her action male counterparts (Willis, Schwarzenegger, Stallone) and still be kicking cinematic ass when she is in her 60’s?  A version of this question was posed to now well-aged rock stars (Mick Jagger, Paul McCartney, Keith Richards) when they were Mila’s age (36).  And they’re still going strong…well, financially strong at least, and in showbiz, that’s the “bottom line.”
