Who is Alex Gardner?

Some may say, ALEX GARDNER (age 18) is the brightest new talent of  this year; with the pop-writing skills of George Michael, the looks of Elvis and perhaps a voice that can be compared to some of the greatest front men of  recent years: Luke Pritchard (The Kooks) to Jake Shears (Scissor Sisters), and Chris Martin (Coldplay).

The Scottish born singer/songwriter picked up his first at the age of 10, and kept going at it until age16 where he loaded up on his music and had enough of school – “I was a ‘B’ student – not great, not bad, but I couldn’t really channel my attention.” Alex explains.

So, he packed his things and moved to London where he soon met up with Brian Higgins and the pop-doctors at  Xenomania (these are the people writing and producing for dance-floor favorites such as Cher, Dannii Minogue, and Pet Shop Boys). The result? “I’m Not Mad,” Alex Gardner’s debut CD.

About his music and writing his own stuff Alex says: “I want to write great pop songs that last forever,” he says. “My own music taste is so diverse, from Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin to Marvin Gaye and Bob Marley, that I can appreciate the good in any song. I can pick out a fancy guitar riff and go ‘Wow, that bit is really good’. Regardless of where the music is from. That’s why my songs go from soulful ballads to pumping pop tracks.”

In this turn-and-burn world of today’s pop music and singles being releases by seemingly nameless vocalists, Alex Gardner is a breath of fresh air, and a commodity. He is an artist to be groomed and nurtured for the long run – that’s if record lables still bother with such traditions. He comes from the “old school” method of actually laying out  a whole album.

“Each song has its own message, each one has a different story,” he says. “But they all relate to each other.”

Imagine that! A musician focused on the whole package and creating a bond with his listeners, song-by-song .

Alex Gardner’s debut CD:  “I’m Not Mad” is out now.
