Brave New Hollywood caught up with director Jordan Vogt-Roberts, and cast members: Nick Robinson, Gabriel Basso, Erin Moriarty, and Moises Arias, at the Los Angeles movie premiere for teenage coming-of age comedy “The Kings of Summer” (CBS Films).

On the red carpet at Archlight Cinemas, in Hollywood, the filmmaker and his young actors talked about the making of the film and the comparisons made by its viewers to eighties classics “Stand By Me” (1986) and “The Goonies” (1985).

Joe Toy (Nick Robinson) is on the verge of adolescence, becoming increasingly frustrated with his single father, Frank’s (Nick Offerman) who often attempts to manage his life.\

Declaring his freedom he takes to the woods with his best friend, Patrick (Gabriel Basso), and a strange kid named Biaggio (Moises Arias).  The boys set out to build a house there, free from responsibility and their parents’ watchful eyes.   This is where they  take charge and aim at becoming the masters of their own little kingdom.

“The Kings of Summer” opens this weekend, in limited release in L.A. and nationwide, with more release dates on June 21.
