Power Lunch: Spike Jonze auctions himself

Spike Jonze

Not Ryan Gosling, but director Spike Jonze (“Where The Wild Things Are”) is putting himself up for an auction, treating the winner to a lunch date.

Now before you say “who?” let us up the profile of your potential date by pointing out: he is a critically acclaimed, Oscar nominated filmmaker who is not just the man behind “Jackass” but a prolific artist who was once married into Hollywood dynasty. Plus, it’s all for a good cause.

The generous Mr. Jonze is actually doing this to raise money for an educational charity. So far so good, right?

Spike has offered to take the winning bidder for lunch, either in L.A. or New York, sometime this year.

L.A. or New York? Sometime this year?

Hmm, sounds a bit non-committal, this Spike Jonze guy.

Just give him the money and see if you can opt out for a lunch with one of your BFF’s instead, and have him pick up the tab.

On the other hand, let us remind you; though this may not be a date with Ryan Gosling or Zac Efron, it’s still for a good cause. You can always show off your philanthropist ways in your social circle and brag about raising money with the ex-hubby of Sofia Coppola. It’s how you spin it, baby.

Still reading? You’re a good egg.

Because, if you help Spike raise $8000 for The Charity Buzz auction by Jan. 19, 2012 (you can do it!), he will hand over the money which you helped raise to ScholarMatch, a website organizing sponsorship for college students in need of financial aid.

Now that’s something to brag about.
